Our commitment to Net Zero by 2050, reported in accordance with PPN 06/21

Version 1.0, September 2026. Reviewed and signed off by the board of directors on 14 September 2026.

Commitment to Achieving Net Zero

Gold Standard Phantoms Limited is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050 in alignment with the UK Government's carbon reduction goals. This commitment applies fully to all UK operations and product assembly and distribution activities.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured. As a specialized manufacturer of calibration phantoms for medical imaging, Gold Standard Phantoms Limited is establishing its carbon emissions baseline for the calendar year 2025. This baseline includes a comprehensive audit of direct operations and global logistics.

Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations:

  • Scope 1 (Direct Emissions): Gold Standard Phantoms Limited reports zero direct emissions (0.00 tCO2e) for Scope 1. The company does not consume natural gas or heating oil at its manufacturing and office space, operating on a fully electric model. The company does not own or lease any vehicles, eliminating transport combustion. In addition, the 6 split-system air conditioning units providing heating and cooling to our spaces remained sealed and required no refrigerant top-ups or maintenance charges throughout 2025.
  • Scope 2 (Indirect Purchased Electricity): 3.69 tCO2e. Gold Standard Phantoms Limited reports grid electricity consumption at its office and manufacturing facilities. In the baseline year 2025, the company consumed 17,425 kWh of electricity. Applying the 2025 UK Government Greenhouse Gas (GHG) conversion factor of 0.21163 kg CO2e per kWh, the Scope 2 indirect emissions are calculated at 3,687.65 kg CO2e (3.69 tCO2e).
  • Scope 3 (Mandatory Subsets under PPN 06/21): The mandated Scope 3 categories have been evaluated and report a cumulative baseline footprint of 5.92 tCO2e:
    • Category 4: Upstream Transportation & Distribution: Currently unassessed. Raw material and component shipping records from external suppliers are being compiled for future reporting. Gold Standard Phantoms Limited commits to collecting full-year 2026 supplier transit data following the close of the 2026 calendar year, with data collation, compilation, and carbon analysis for incorporation into the next annual report update.
    • Category 5: Waste Generated in Operations: Under active assessment. Operational waste is managed via a commercial agreement with Veolia, collecting one 360-litre bin of non-hazardous industrial waste (EWC 200301) and one 360-litre bin of mixed recyclate/packaging waste (EWC 150106) on a bi-weekly basis (26 annual cycles). The corresponding carbon footprint is being calculated using standard density-to-weight models. Full 2026 annual waste figures will be compiled post-2026, with final carbon calculations committed for inclusion in the next report iteration.
    • Category 6: Business Travel: Under assessment. Business travel is extremely minimal, restricted to essential academic and medical imaging conferences. Travel log and expense data for the complete 2026 calendar year will be collated, compiled, and analyzed in early 2027, with the final assessment committed for publication in the next report update.
    • Category 7: Employee Commuting: Under assessment. Commuting footprints are minimal, as all 10 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) employees reside locally, multiple staff members utilize active transport (such as cycling) supported by our active Cycle to Work scheme, and we support hybrid and remote working (with 1 FTE working permanently from home and 4 FTEs working on a hybrid schedule). A formal 2026 staff commuting survey will be administered and compiled following the close of 2026, with emissions quantification committed for publication in the next report update.
    • Category 9: Downstream Transportation & Distribution: Grounded in our 2025 global shipment transactions register, product deliveries of high-precision calibration phantoms (including fMRI FUNSTAR, MRS SPECTRE, and MULTISAMPLE series) to international universities and clinical trial centers resulted in a verified downstream logistics footprint of 5,920 kg CO2e (5.92 tCO2e). This covers air, road, and courier logistics to North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific regions.

Emissions Reduction Targets

To establish a structured carbon reduction pathway and maintain continuous progress toward Net Zero, Gold Standard Phantoms Limited has adopted five-year emissions reduction targets. Based on our downstream courier logistics baseline of 5.92 tCO2e, we project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 7.21 tCO2e by 2030. This represents an immediate 25% reduction against the 2025 baseline.

As we integrate the remaining unassessed Scope 3 components, we will dynamically adjust this target to represent an absolute 25% reduction of our total consolidated footprint. The targeted reduction trajectory toward our 2050 Net Zero goal is detailed below:

Target yearTarget CO2e (t)Percentage reduction

Carbon Reduction Projects

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

Gold Standard Phantoms Limited has proactively implemented several sustainability initiatives that minimize the company's carbon footprint during manufacturing and courier transport. The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented:

Consolidated Regional Freight Logistics

To reduce downstream transportation emissions (Category 9), we actively coordinate with our international academic and medical clients to bundle multiple phantom components, certified reference vials (such as the MultiSample NIST certified prefilled vial sets), and accessories into consolidated freight shipments. This avoids individual multiple courier collections and optimizes aircraft and delivery vehicle cargo density, preventing unnecessary high-impact courier transport runs.

Established Cycle to Work Scheme

To support and encourage active transport, we have established and run a UK Cycle to Work scheme, which several of our 10 FTE employees have already utilized. This directly reduces local passenger travel emissions and promotes staff well-being.

Hybrid and Remote Work Policies

To minimize commuting-related emissions (Category 7), we have implemented flexible hybrid and remote working arrangements. Currently, at least one FTE works permanently from home, and four FTEs work on a hybrid schedule. This significantly reduces weekly office commuting frequency and associated transport emissions.

Future Proposed Initiatives

Over the next 12 to 24 months, Gold Standard Phantoms Limited intends to deploy further initiatives to continuously drive down emissions across all scopes:

Transition to Green Renewable Power

To eliminate electricity-related Scope 2 emissions, we plan to shift our office and phantom testing/assembly space to a 100% certified renewable energy tariff, ensuring that calibration and liquid filling processes are fully powered by carbon-free wind and solar energy.

Paperless Calibration Portal

Historically, our phantoms are accompanied by printed technical documentation, user manuals, and calibration certificates. We will implement a secure online customer calibration portal where clients can download NIST-traceable certificates, calibration parameters, and user guides digitally, fully eliminating printed materials from shipped boxes.

Enhanced Commuter Tracking and Green Travel

Building on our active Cycle to Work scheme and hybrid working arrangements, we will look to formally track staff commuting modes and distances in the next reporting cycle. This will enable us to accurately calculate the carbon savings generated by our remote-working and cycling initiatives under Scope 3 Category 7.

Supplier Carbon Disclosure Policy

We will collaborate with key suppliers (e.g., polymer molders, liquid metabolite suppliers, and freight couriers) to establish data disclosures for upstream shipping (Category 4) and exact transport weights, driving supply chain transparency.
